Assessment of the effectiveness of pain management among trauma patients in the emergency department

Background: In the emergency department (ED), pain is most common complaint, especially among trauma patients. However, two-thirds of patients are discharged from EDs with moderate to severe pain. Therefore, management an important part care in patients. Objective: To assess effectiveness ED. Method: This a retrospective cohort study conducted on adult who attended ED King Abdulaziz medical city (KAMC) Jeddah June 2016 July 2018. The evaluated if was during patient encounters, and score registered. Furthermore, we assessed medications were administered, their type dosage, evaluation before after administration. Pain scored using numeric scale. Data collected health information system (Best care�) analyzed SPSS version 24. Results: Initial assessment occurred only 69% our population, while medication administration happened 71% median between time arrival Initial Assessment 19 minutes. Mean difference scores one scale P-Value 0.001. 36.7% Patients received appropriate based improvement result. Opioid used as initial drug 35% patients. Conclusion: There big room for departments. Emergency providers should observe timeliness appropriateness management. Evaluation re-evaluation or other pain-relieving intervention needs be more frequent efficient.
